New Mom Needed Help
with Desk Organization
Imagine you had a 4-year-old and then gave birth
to a baby with some health issues. Running to and from the
hospital each day for weeks after the baby arrives and all
the while attempting to recover from the delivery, care for
your 4-year-old, and prepare for when your baby arrives home.
The last thing you want to address would be your desk area.
That's when this client called in a team of experts, including
Stacey Crew, to organize not only her closets, but her paperwork
and desk area.
The desk was overflowing with unopened
mail, projects in the works, office supplies with no home,
and office equipment taking up precious desk space. This all-day
project, including a visit to Staples, consisted of sorting
paperwork, purging, assigning new homes (including rearranging
the furniture by moving it to the opposite side of the room,
and containing her files in an orderly way.
The client was relieved once it
was completed because we also put systems in place for handling
the incoming mail and made sure everything had a place to
live so she could easily straighten up.

August 2007
In addition to having limited storage space in this kitchen,
the room was dark and dreary. First, the owner purchased two
cabinets to store cookware and pantry items (see Kitchen1
Before). We didn't get a photo before the cabinets were brought
into the space, however, we did before everything was loaded
into the storage cabinets.
In the "Kitchen2 BEFORE" photo, you will notice
that the cookware was left on the stove, items that had no
home were either on the kitchen table or countertops.
Once there were sufficient storage cabinets, we used one to
house all the pantry items (which was placed next to the back
door due to its size) and the other on a completely blank
wall, which contains all cookware and appliances not used
on a daily basis (i.e. crock-pot, grill, and toaster). Now
there's a place for everything so everything can be put in
its place.
The owner was relieved to have a bright and airy space with
minimal clutter, which will allow her to envision the next
step: Renovating the kitchen with new flooring, cabinet refacing
and countertops. This was a surprise for her husband who was
very pleased when he returned from a business trip. Next,
we're off to organize her office space.

Rearranging furniture and setting up
a filing system is all it took to make this home office a
functional workspace.
Simply by decluttering and rearranging
a closet, you gain more space and are less confused by what
you’re looking at.

A label maker and consistency in the
color of the folders is a great way to improve the overall
feel of your filing system.
