STACEY
CREW
Professional Organizer, Writer, Author, Speaker |
Stacey Crew has been organizing
her entire life! It all started when she would spend hours
in her grandmother's dressmaking shop, organizing fabric swatches
by colors and patterns. Guess you could say she was born with
the "organizing gene." She's your typical first-born...a
little intense, responsible, reliable, and likes to lead.
Although, she wants you to know that she also has a humorous
side and realizes that life isn't a race to the finish, but
a journey to be enjoyed with lots of laughter on the way!
Stacey's philosophy on organizing
covers a several different points:
- First and foremost, you can learn
strategies and
techniques to get and stay organized!
- Organizing is about eliminating distractions
and putting things in order so you can focus on what's
really important in your life.
- It's having self respect and respect
for your things, but clearly understanding that your things
do not define who you are as a person.
- Organizing reduces anxiety and stress.
Although the initial steps in the organizing process--and
that's what it is, a process--can be a little overwhelming,
with the help of an organizing who is sensitive to these
issues, you can push through and get to the other side and
have eliminated the anxiety in the process.
There's never a time when
we approach a project or task where there's not a certain
level of anxiety attached to it--especially if it's something
new and unfamiliar. The success comes in pushing through the
tough spots and getting to the other side. If you can do that,
you've potentially put that issue behind you and may not have
to deal with it again, or at least at the same anxiety level
as before. You can do it!
When it comes to time, Stacey
understands what it's like to be a busy woman! She has two
small children, a house with a yard (yes, she mows the lawn
and on occasion uses power tools!), a business, friends and
hobbies she loves. So, with all that, it's important that
she's clear about who and what comes first, which meant eliminating
some less-important activities she once was apart of.
Although it wasn't easy
at first, eliminating some activities that she was just okay
with, came as a relief. It was after answering the question
that related to career, "If you could be doing anything
you wanted all day long, what would it be?" For Stacey,
the answer was "organizing." Okay, so a bit odd
perhaps, but something definitely of value for others. That's
when Clear Vision Organization LLC was born.
When you are as busy as
most people today, it's important to have some down time in
a space where you're not forced to think about "what
you need to do." Therefore, you need to have a space
that allows your imagination to surface to the top. You also
be able to breathe easier- literally! An uncluttered home
and life reduces chaos and increases your energy and enjoyment.
Less clutter can actually help you to feel freer and lighter.
Stacey says...as a Professional
Organizer, "I see decluttering as a powerful opportunity
to empower my clients, both adolescents and adults, to take
charge of their environment. The sooner we learn that the
objects we hold onto having little to do with who we are,
the faster we become liberated from over-consumption and the
weight of the stuff in our life.
Just like Oprah, who after
years of trial and error, discovered that getting fit more
than just losing weight...it's our body, mind and soul that
is addressed in the process. Why not learn the value of this
today! It's not efficient to organize everything you have.
What is necessary is sifting through the old and the broken
and the history and really falling in love with the objects
you decide to hold on to. Clean it up and clear it out...go
play Frisbee in the park.
My clients aren't worried
about keeping their things corralled in file cabinets and
storage bins. Even if there is a place for everything, part
of organizing is tossing and purging. By no means am I saying
get rid of everything and "don't buy." I'm saying
"make sure your deliberate about what you choose to organize
and your purchases."
I'm all for spending and
improving my surroundings. But it's when we become a slave
to credit card debt because we just had to have something
that's now in the bottom of our closet, well...that's another
story. Set up systems to house what you need and want to keep.
Save up and buy a $150 dollar handbag that you ABSOLUTELY
LOVE versus spending $35 on one that after a few uses may
begin falling apart or you decide you don't like it that much
anymore. It's important to learn that organizing and decluttering
go hand-in-hand in the process of organizing. Otherwise, we
stand to continually buy bigger houses to hold our stuff and
spend inordinate amounts of time caring for our things. What
a shame to be ruled by inanimate objects and miss enjoying
the people and places around us."
Only have what you love
in your home and life!
